Abram looks up at a starry night sky, listening to God's promise of countless descendants.

One night, God spoke to Abram in a vision. God told Abram not to be afraid and reminded him that He would protect him. God also promised Abram that he would have many descendants, even though Abram and his wife Sarai did not have any children yet.

Abram believed God, and God counted his faith as righteousness. This means that Abram trusted God completely, and God was pleased with him. This shows us how important it is to have faith in God, even when we cannot see what will happen.

Abram sleeps as animal halves lie on the ground; God's presence glows, promising land and foretelling his descendants' future.

God then made a promise about the land that Abram’s descendants would one day inherit. Abram asked God how he would know that he would have this land. God gave Abram a special instruction. Abram prepared animals, cut them in half, and laid them on the ground. At night, God sent a deep sleep over Abram.

While Abram slept, God spoke about the future. He told Abram that his descendants would live in a foreign land and be treated badly for 400 years, but God would punish the people who oppressed them and bring them out with many possessions. God also promised the exact land that Abram’s descendants would inherit.

Abram looks to the star-filled night sky, symbolizing God's promise of countless descendants.

Genesis 15 teaches us that God keeps His promises, that trusting Him is very important, and that He has plans for our future, even if we cannot see them right away. Abram’s faith shows us the example of believing God completely.
