Psalm 4 is a prayer of David. David is asking God for help while people are treating him unfairly. He reminds himself and others that God listens when His people call to Him.
David begins by asking God to hear his prayer. He remembers that God has helped him before, so he trusts that God can help him again.
David asks people who are doing wrong how long they will continue loving lies and chasing after worthless things.
He reminds them that God has chosen people who are faithful to Him. God listens when His faithful people call to Him.
David then gives important advice. He tells people to be angry without doing wrong. Instead of allowing anger to lead to sinful actions, they should think quietly and trust God.
He also encourages people to offer the right kind of worship and put their trust in God.
Some people are searching for wealth, happiness, and good circumstances. They ask, "Who will show us something good?"
David responds by asking God to shine His favour upon them. He understands that true happiness does not come only from money or possessions. It comes from God.
David says that God has put greater joy in his heart than people experience when they have plenty of grain and wine.
The psalm ends with a beautiful statement of trust. David says that he can lie down and sleep peacefully because God makes him safe.
This chapter teaches us that real peace comes from trusting God. Even when people treat us badly or life is difficult, we can pray, remain calm, avoid sin, and rest in God's care.
